Dr Louise Kantrow
The MMAC and MWTA were host to Dr. Louise Kantrow, permanent representative to the United Nations from the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) at a breakfast meeting held in the MMAC offices on October 23rd, who was in Milwaukee through the work of the Milwaukee League of Women Voters (MLWV). During her two-day stay she also meet with faculty and staff at UW-M and at Alverno College, and spoke at a MLWV dinner. Dr. Kantrow presented an overview of the work of the ICC, whose activities range from arbitration and dispute resolution to making the case for open trade and the market economy system, business self-regulation, fighting corruption and combating commercial crime. The audience of over twenty local businessmen and women briefly described their businesses, before asking Dr. Kantrow questions about customs reform, modernization and reinforcement to how the ICC manages to find common ground among the 130 nations actively represented. Established in 1919, the ICC has been advising the UN since 1946.
