Harry C. BrockelHARRY C. BROCKEL
Municipal Port Director, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Born, Chicago, Illinois, September 18, 1908.

Became associated with Milwaukee Board of Harbor Commissioners in 1926. In 1928 took leave of absence to gain experience in merchant marine operations, serving as ordinary seaman aboard an American ocean vessel.

Appointed Secretary to the Board of Harbor Commissioners in 1936 and Municipal Port Director in 1942.

Served during World War II in U. S. Coast Guard Reserve, in port security operations.

Appointed by President Eisenhower in 1954 to membership on Advisory Board of the U.S. Seaway Development Corporation.

Member of many societies and associations relating to transportation, trade and municipal affairs. Frequent expert witness before national commissions and congressional committees on harbor and waterway legislation.

Author of many articles on waterways and shipping.

Recipient of Good Government Award, Milwaukee Junior Chamber of Commerce; Distinguished Public Service Award, Milwaukee Association of Commerce; National Public Service Award, Fraternal Order of Eagles; Distinguished Service Award, Milwaukee World Trade Club; and Pere Marquette Award, Marquette University.

The Harry C. Brockel World Trade Award would be presented by the Milwaukee World Trade Association to a former Officer or Director of MWTA on behalf of Wisconsin companies in recognition of significant contributions to the development of international trade, including meritorius service to the Milwaukee World Trade Association, Inc.

The Purpose of the Harry C. Brockel World Trade Award is:

  • To preserve the accomplishments and name of Harry Brockel as a Milwaukeean who achieved world recognition for his many contributions to a better understanding and development of trade between Wisconsin and the world.
  • To provide appropriate recognition to a former Officer or Director of MWTA for significant leadership to the Association and development of international trade by a Wisconsin company.
  • To obtain justifiable and significant recognition for the MWTA resulting from it's efforts and contributions to world trade over the years.
