Luxembourg Board of Economic Development
January 2010
Dear Business Executives and friends of Luxembourg:
The world’s economies have just turned the page on the worst recession since the Great Depression, with reduced national product and income, high unemployment, financial stress on households, record corporate failures in finance and manufacturing and skyrocketing public deficits.
While the Luxembourg economy has not been isolated from the turmoil, the leading indicators for the last quarter of 2009 make us cautiously optimistic that the Luxembourg economy will return to a solid growth path in 2010, exceeding the average in the EU.
As the new Consul General of Luxembourg in San Francisco, I am pleased to recommend taking a look at this first 2010-Luxembourg Economic Newsletter edition. Despite the general recession, the business climate of Luxembourg continues to carry great opportunities for innovative business development and growth. If you wish to learn more about these opportunities or about the subjects of any of the articles below, I would be pleased to assist. You may also check the new website at www.luxembourgforbusiness.com.
With my best regards,
Georges Schmit
Consul General of Luxembourg
Executive Director, Luxembourg Board of Economic Development, San Francisco
